A 101-year-old veteran of service in World War II took the ride of a lifetime Friday, at Alliance Airport in Fort Worth. Decked out in aviation gear and high heels, Lucille Fleming boarded a Boeing Stearman, the primary training aircraft of the era.
Fleming's flight was made possible by the Ageless Aviation Dream program. She was a registered nurse and during her service in World War II cared for Prisoners of War from Germany. She had never before flown in a plane like the Stearman.
"I'm looking forward to this," she said before climbing on board with other veterans. "It's a great thing. It's a thrill of my life really, to fly something like this at my age."
