Paws of War

NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) - A group called Guardians of Rescue is helping to connect rescued animals with veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder and traumatic brain injuries.

The program is called Paws of War.

The founder's name is Robert Misseri.  He says the group is 100% volunteer run.  The program matches pets with military veterans suffering the effects of the battlefield.

So far the group has matched 12 veterans with dogs.

    A New Jersey school and several homes were evacuated Thursday afternoon because of a large brush fire that was being fanned by winds.Beachwood Intermediate South School was closed just after 12:30 p.m. Parents were told not to report to the school. The Ocean County Sheriff's Dept. said that all children were going to be safely evacuated to another location.

    Two endangered gorillas born at the Bronx Zoo in March and April are now making appearances at the zoo's famous Congo Gorilla Forest exhibit, according to the Wildlife Conservation Society. The baby western lowland gorillas are the 14th and 15th gorillas born at the exhibit since it opened in 1999. The Bronx Zoo has had 50 gorilla births since 1972. The gender of the newborns is unknown for now, WCS said.
