Funeral held for girl allegedly starved to death by parents

Posted: Updated:

Nearly 300 people gathered at a Gwinnett County church on Wednesday to say goodbye to a 10-year-old girl police say was starved to death.

The body of Emani Moss was found in a trash bin outside of a Lawrenceville apartment on Nov. 2. Authorities have charged her father and stepmother in the death.

Emani Moss' funeral was held at Levett Funeral Home's Gwinnett Chapel in Lawrenceville. Several mourners shared fond memories of the Emani during the private ceremony.

"It's just so sad that she is not here with us right now. My heart is aching right now because I don't understand," said Lavonia Brown, Emani's preschool teacher.

Gwinnett County District Attorney Danny Porter said that the initial evidence against Eman and Tiffany Moss suggests that the case could lead to a death penalty trial.

"Did she suffer? Was there pain? Those are the kinds of things that we need to know to make the decisions we need to make as we go forward," Porter said.

Eman and Tiffany Moss are charged with murder and child cruelty. It will be may be months before prosecutors decide if the death penalty will be sought.
