When it comes to raising children, there's no shortage of opinions. Now, blogs are giving moms a new platform to offer up parenting tips, and some of those posts are going viral.
A South Dakota mommy blogger's rant against overprotective parenting has gotten hundreds of thousands of views.
Stephanie Metz writes that her two children aren't the center of her world, and that's a good thing.
The post was inspired by her 4-year-old son, who wanted to bring an action figure with a drill for show-and-tell, but he was afraid his teacher would think it looked like a gun, and he'd get in trouble.
Metz says that helicopter parents need to back off and let boys play with toy guns and wrestle around, and let girls deal with name-calling and bullying on their own -- all without being afraid of getting in trouble.
"Kids are being raised to constantly be victims," Metz said. "They don't know how to problem solve, deal with adversity when bad things happen. It's gonna create a big problem when they have to go out into the real world and deal with those things."
But other moms, like Kim Hall of Austin, take a totally opposite approach -- urging parents to be more proactive. Hall's post, which targets teenage girl taking racy selfies, went viral earlier this fall.
In it, she tells the girls they're tempting boys, and they need to think twice about what they post if they want respect.
Hall goes on to say she checks her sons' Facebook pages, and if they see a girl post questionable pictures, there's a family talk, and the girls are blocked.
