Thomas Haley Elementary School in Irving has parents who are active in the school and in the community. Tammy King wanted to do even more -- so she gathered Haley moms to volunteer at Irving Cares.
Irving Cares is a food pantry that offers help to anyone who lives in the city of Irving.
Each month it serves 800 families who can get help up to six times a year. Canned food, meat, bread, dairy and eggs are bagged up and handed out to those in need.
The moms at Haley Elementary know about the fight against hunger in their community and that's why they volunteer at the food pantry. 87% of the children in the Irving ISD qualify for free or reduced price meals; so this is a battle the moms are happy to help win.
The Thomas Haley Elementary school moms volunteer there once a month. One mother said she has become a better person because she volunteers at Irving Cares and the other moms feel the same way.
Irving Cares can always use more volunteers and donations. If you'd like to help call 972.721.9181 ext. 209 or log on to www.irvingcares.org.
