DALLAS -

A teenager is mourning the loss of his own mother, whom he called his best friend, after she was killed in an Irving motel by shots fired from the next room.

It happened Tuesday around 1 a.m. at the Microtel Inn on W. Irving Boulevard.

Police said 48-year-old Traci Reedy was on the bed watching TV when she was hit in the chest by a bullet that went through the wall.

She was taken to the hospital where she died.

Reed's husband and teenage son, Jack, were also in the room, but were not hurt. Jack says his family was living in the motel because they didn't have enough money for an apartment.

Police later arrested 36-year-old Michael Shane Gray, who was handling the gun in the room next to Reedy's.

He's facing charges for criminally negligent homicide.
