Posted: Updated:
FORT WORTH, Texas -

Pope Francis on Tuesday named a new leader for the Fort Worth Catholic Diocese.

Monsignor Michael Olson will succeed Bishop Kevin Vann, who was moved to California.

He was born in Chicago, but grew up in North Texas and was ordained in Fort Worth in 1994. Olson is only the fourth bishop of the Fort Worth diocese and the only priest from the diocese to be named its bishop.

Olson is currently the rector of the Holy Trinity Seminary in Irving.

Olson helped form St. Mary's Seminary and lectured at the University of Saint Thomas in Houston before moving to Irving.
