Dallas considers replacing old traffic signals

Posted: Updated:

Dallas has an aging traffic signal infrastructure and on Wednesday the city council will consider a plan to upgrade the system.

About 80 percent of the signals in the city are already past their prime. The plan calls for 60 signals to be replaced each year so that all will be in acceptable condition by 2040.

The estimated cost is $10 million a year, which is less than if the city replaced all signals that are 25 years or older. That would cost $196 million.
