PHOENIX (KSAZ) -

A big honor for the surviving member and families of the Granite Mountain Hot Shot crew.  They will be the Grand Marshals for the Fiesta Bowl Parade.

The announcement was made in Prescott Wednesday.

Shortly after the deaths of the 19 Hot Shots, the Fiesta Bowl's organizers knew who they wanted as Grand Marshals, they just wanted to wait until the time was right.

"We just think it is an excellent match to honor these families, to demonstrate to them that all of us in the state of Arizona months after the event.. we still remember them and honor them and thank them for their sacrifice," said Robert Shelton.

At the announcement, the widows of two Hot Shots, Jessie Steed and Robert Caldwell.

"It is a huge honor not just for our families.. for the community too.. because it wasn't just us that had this loss, but our entire community," said Claire Caldwell.

The invitation has been extended to all the families of all 19 firefighters and the one who survived.

"Everyone has come together so much, not just from our own community, but from across the state supporting us and it is great to remember that and know that other people are taking the time to remember them that loss," said Desiree Steed.

The Fiesta Bowl Parade is one of the largest events in the state.  In the past, the Grand Marshals have mostly been professional athletes.

"Nothing takes away from the pain, but it does help.  It is comforting to know that they are being honored and being remembered," said Caldwell.

At this point, it's too early to say how many families will be participating, however, they have all been invited.  This year, the parade will take place on Dec. 28th.
