Friday night football

Posted: Updated:

On Friday night, both the Mesquite Horn and Allen football players came out onto a sloppy field.

It was a tough start for Mesquite as Destri White was picked off by Allen.

They would have more trouble when they got the ball back. Justyn Oliphant fumbled, but his teammate would recover.

Then, Jarrison Stewart made a fantastic grab to keep the drive alive.

They capped it off when White found Blayde Moore for the touchdown.

Allen countered when Tay Evans rumbled forward for the score.

Next Mesquite Horn possession, White was sacked and Allen began pulling away.

Currently, Allen leads with a big 42-7 lead in the third quarter.

Meanwhile, it was Mesquite Poteet going against Woodrow Wilson at AT&T Stadium.

Second quarter Jaylon Smith scored from 15 yards out; Poteet up 14-0.

Just before halftime, Lane Novy lofted it to Kody Edwards for 24 yards and the touchdown.

Final score: Mesquite Poteet wins 42-7.

At Fort Worth Brewer Stadium, 4A action between Crowley and Birdville.

Early going, no score, but Crowley ripped off a big run…but they're tackled just short of the goal line.

Then, Matt Marner called a quarterback keeper -- touchdown Crowley,

Birdville had a 27-16 lead in the fourth quarter.

Also playing were Southlake Carroll against Midland Lee.

The Dragons came out of the locker room with a 45-0 lead, so they decided to play conservatively and run the football.

Lee avoids the shutout midway through the second half, but it was too little, too late. The Dragons won this one 51-7.
