DFW area prepares for winter storm

Posted: Updated:

North Texans are taking the threat of winter weather seriously as residents work to winterize their homes.

With freezing temperatures expected, many don't want to be on the roads.  They're hitting up local grocery stores to stock up before the bad weather moves through the area.

"I am stocking up because we're supposed to get some bad weather," says Jan Patterson.  "I'm getting some stuff for Thanksgiving but also some soup and chili for the next couple of days."

As for road conditions, there are nearly 5,500 bridges and overpasses in TxDOT's two districts in North Texas.  TxDOT says crews and sand trucks are standing by and ready for the storm.
