Fire breaks out at DeKalb Co. retirement home

Posted: Updated:

Residents of a DeKalb County retirement home were evacuated Monday morning after flames broke out.  It happened at the Clairmont Crest Apartments on Clairmont Road.

Fire crews say they got a call from residents who said they smelled smoke around 8 a.m.  Roughly a dozen fire trucks responded to the scene, and they removed some of the 150 to 175 residents from the building.

Those residents were kept on a bus to stay warm while firefighters looked for the source of the smoke.  They were later moved from the bust and taken to a different part of the building while firefighters worked to removed the smoke from inside the rooms.
