Police say the son of a patient at the Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview reportedly hurt several people and killed one in a stabbing incident at the hospital on Tuesday.
Kyron Rayshawn Templeton, 22, has been charged with one count of murder and four counts of aggravated assault.
The incident happened around 7 a.m. in the Ambulatory Surgical Center, which is across the street from the main hospital building.
Longview police confirmed the victims included two employees and three hospital visitors. One nurse was killed and one visitor is in critical condition. The three others are in good condition.
Witnesses say the nurse, Gail Sandidge, was trying to protect patients before she was hurt.
"The Good Shepherd family tragically lost a member of our team this morning," said Steve Altmiller, the hospital's president and CEO.
Templeton has been charged with one count of murder and four counts of aggravated assault.
"This was an isolated incident that was diligently handled by the Longview Police Department and our Good Shepherd response team," Altmiller said.
A motive is not yet clear. Hospital officials say they will turn over surveillance video to police.
Longview is about 120 miles southeast of Dallas.
