A luxury gun club set to open in Frisco next week is the first of its kind in the state -- Frisco Gun Club is setting itself apart in the crowded Texas gun range scene.
The 43,000-square foot facility offers four 100-yard rifle lanes, 36 handgun lanes, an on-site gunsmith and 7,000 square feet of shopping,
"We wanted to create an environment similar to other upscale retail outlets, like Neiman Marcus or Barney's or something like that," said owner Christian Putnam.
But Putnam hopes the real appeal to the wealthy gun enthusiasts will be the private VIP club lounge, which is still getting its finishing touches. In the lounge, a chef will serve up American bistro cuisine with interesting game choices.
Memberships vary, but the cost to dine and fire like a VIP is $7,500 for initiation, then $200 a month.
Putnam says they've already sold 2,300 memberships. His goal had been 1,000.
"People are used to the old dusty, murky, smoky, dirty, indoor shooting range on the fringe of the city," said Putnam. "And what we are trying to do is just do something different."
