An arrest has been made in a 1991 Fort Worth cold case murder of a child, law enforcement officials say.
Tuesday, detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Juanita Gonzalez, who is accused of killing her 4-year-old stepdaughter, Anna Gonzalez.
In October 1991, police were called to the home where Anna, her father and Juanita lived, in reference to a drowning.
Anna was taken to a hospital but later died. An autopsy revealed that Anna had not drowned; rather, she sustained head injuries, and her death was ruled a homicide.
Forth Worth Police launched an investigation into the girl's death. Juanita was considered the main suspect, but she was never arrested in connection to Anna's death.
Earlier this year, one of Anna's relatives asked about her death, and the unsolved case was reopened. During the new investigation, detectives learned that Juanita allegedly abused Anna during the short time Anna lived with her father and Juanita.
