ATLANTA -

It is Thanksgiving morning and the tree at the Macy's at Lenox Square is set to be lit, but there is a change in this Atlanta tradition.

This year, the department store opted to use a fake, reusable tree. This is the first year they have gone with this option. A company spokesperson told FOX 5 News the decision was an environmental one.

In addition, the "Great Tree" will not be on top of the store as in years past. Instead, it will be in the parking lot on the Lenox Road side of the store.

A crane snapped while trying to remove a previous tree. This caused the tree to fall through the roof, damaging the store.

The 56-foot tree will have all 8 miles of its lights lit up Thanksgiving evening.
