Officer Who Went Viral Last Year For Good Deed Is Promoted

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK, NY -

Last November, a New York police officer gained world-wide fame for buying a homeless man a pair of shoes. The picture that captured the moment went viral last November. Nearly a year later, the officer's promoted to detective!

Last November, Officer Larry DePrimo saw a man completely barefoot out in the cold without any shoes on, so he went into a shop and bought a pair of boots. A tourist from Arizona snapped a picture and posted it to social media. It received more than 260,000 likes on Facebook and lots of social media buzz.

Earlier this week, DePrimo was promoted to detective. Now, DePrimo has a new picture, tweeted out by the official NYPD twitter account.

Detective DePrimo says that he hasn't seen that man he helped out since last year, but would like to meet him again.

DePrimo has been on the force for three years.
