In the summer, the meet on a baseball field in Southfield. Children with disabilities from across Metro Detroit come to play ball and experience the thrill of the game. They even have a fantasy camp with the Detroit Tigers.

Sunday, it was a reunion in the off season. Miracle League players enjoyed face painting, crafts, cookie decorating and a festive holiday party just for them.

"The Miracle League is a blessing," said Chris Dean who has two children in the program. "To see our kids be able to play and not just play but enjoy each other's company without judgement. You can't put a value on that."

Parents say the program helps children build confidence and self esteem. Just ask 12-year-old Christian Dean who plays third base.

"It's such a great organization which helps kids who aren't always cool kids," he said. "But here, they're always the cool kids."

And what could be cooler than a party with about 400 of your closest friends? It's the first time they've done this thanks to the generosity of Mark Waad, 28, of Shelby Township. He owns an auto body shop and is a first-time dad. When he learned about the Miracle League through Community Choice Credit Union, he donated $10,000 to make the party possible.

"When I walked in here today I [saw] all of these beautiful kids. I'm speechless," Waad said. "These are all God's children -- and God's gifts."

The children say it was an awesome celebration. Now, they're counting the days until Christmas and the next Miracle League season. Click HERE to learn more about the Miracle League of Michigan.
