Sunday was World AIDS Day.
U.T. Southwestern Medical Center gave out free HIV tests at the Potter's House of Dallas.
The goal of the screening campaign is to help people understand the importance of getting tested.
A Potter's house pastor raised in Zimbabwe said it's such an epidemic there, her sister who still lives there says the streets are lined with children who are dying of HIV just as quickly as they are dying of starvation.
She says it's a global problem which is why she's helping North Texas take action.
"So that's what we're here today for is to if we become aware we can do something about it. It's when we're ignorant that it can spread without being checked," said Pastor Bonne Moon.
She says education and responsibility are the first steps towards a healthy generation.
