Keeping pets warm crucial in winter months

Posted: Updated:
SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (WJBK) -

Old man winter is here and keeping your pet safe and warm is critical during these cold months.

Here are a few tips to keep your pet safe and healthy.

If your pet is kept outside, increase the amount of food that you are feeding. They will need the extra nutrients to keep warm.

Make sure your pet has plenty of fresh water. Animals need water just as much in the winter as in the summer.

Insulate dog houses with straw. Do not use blankets, they tend to get wet and do not insulate well.

Use an animal safe de-icer on sidewalks and driveways. Normal salt can irritate animals paws.

When temperatures hit below zero, please bring your animals inside. Temperatures that low can jeopardize your pets health and safety.

It's not just the styles that have changed with weddings over the years -- it's also the technology. Disposable cameras used to be the norm, but now there's an even simpler way for the bride and groom to get some candid photos of their special day.
