Early Monday morning,
Fort Worth Police were called out to a home on Hawthorne Avenue after getting a
911 call about a possible burglary.
Police say when they got there, the homeowner told them he thought there was a burglar, and shot a suspect right outside his home.
FOX 4 did some digging, and from police records, found out that the home had three reported burglaries take place within the past year, and a home next door to that house had another burglary reported earlier this year.
Before the shooting Monday, there were at least five reported burglaries just on the same street as the homeowner who reported since the beginning of the year.
Jim Marshall lives a block down from the crime scene and says that earlier this year, someone broke into his garage.
Marshall was surprised when he found out what happened Monday morning, and says that where he lives is, overall, a very safe neighborhood
"I don't see any particular reason that this street was targeted more than others," he said. "Other than there are a lot of detached garages."
The Berkeley Place Homeowners Association pays Red Horse Security, a private company, to patrol and spot check the neighborhood. Red Horse officials say they've been keeping watch in the neighborhood since 2006, and it's only in the last couple of years they've seen more incidents.
Besides participating in the security program, Marshall says he let his neighbors know what happened to keep them alert, and he's making sure everything is locked up.
Fort Worth Police said that they found a Hispanic male with a gunshot wound near the home's location. He was taken to a hospital, but his current condition isn't known.
