Detroit police reopen probe of "Tacoma Four" murders, citing mismanagement

Nearing the one-year anniversary of a quadruple homicide on Detroit's east side, known to some as "The Tacoma Four," the Detroit Police Department is restarting the investigation after no suspects have been uncovered.

The Detroit Police launched an internal investigation on Monday into last year's quadruple homicide probe, saying the case lacked management. DPD Chief James Craig says the case was assigned to a detective who had just joined homicide and didn't have the experience to tackle such a high-profile and complicated case.

The mistakes made in the investigation point to a bigger problem that Chief Craig says he will not ignore. He brought in a new management team and they're looking at every division, especially homicide.

"We have police officers in this department right now who have had family members that have been murdered, and there's no closure," he tells Fox 2's Alexis Wiley. "We should, and will have, a 70 percent clearance rate."

Chief Craig tells Wiley a person of interest has been identified, but no one has been arrested.

In the meantime, families of the victims hope the new investigation will lead to justice.
