Police have finally caught the armed and dangerous mental patient who got away twice.

A source close to the investigation said that Leslie Tyrone Ellison was found at a motel in Seagoville and taken into custody without incident Wednesday morning. A tip led investigators to that hotel room, where Ellison had barricaded himself in a bathroom, and a woman who was with him was also taken into custody..

"He was bound and determined," said Hyla Ray, who witnessed the arrest. "He wasn't coming out, and they kept hollering and screaming, and then they had the gang unit and SWAT that went in there,"

Ellison first escaped while being transported on Interstate 30 from Terrell to a mental hospital after reportedly swallowing three AAA batteries. He allegedly kicked the doors open and took off in a truck.

Combine Police tried to pull over the driver of a white pickup truck Tuesday afternoon. That driver took off and eventually fled from an isolated neighborhood where homes are far apart.

Several agencies searched for more than two hours by air, on the ground and with K9s for that driver, but their efforts didn't turn up a suspect.

Ellison was spotted in a different truck in Seagoville around midnight Tuesday. Officers there attempted to stop the Chevy Avalanche, but instead a chase began that lasted about 10 minutes.

Ellison was able to evade the officers and abandoned the truck at the Shady Creek mobile home park in Dallas. Dallas police went street by street through the mobile home park, thinking Ellison may have hidden under one of the homes.

Deputies and police called off the search after dark, but maintained a soft perimeter near Interstate 45 and Malloy Bridge Road, where they thought he bailed from the stolen truck.

Ellison's criminal history includes drug charges, assault against a public servant and theft of property.
