Woman dies after being shot during home invasion

FULTON COUNTY, Ga. -

A woman has died after being shot during a home invasion early Sunday morning, authorities said. Police are still searching for the gunman behind the deadly shooting.

Authorities said that 43-year-old Pam Williams was alone in her Fulton County house when she called 911 and said that she heard something suspicious. She was still on the phone with dispatchers while the robbers were inside. Authorities know she tried to hide, but intruders found her.

When police arrived, they found a back window open. Once inside, they found Williams. She had been shot.

Investigators aren't sure how many people were involved in the fatal home invasion.

"We don't have a definitive number of who we're looking for, or how many we're looking for," said Cpl. Kay Lester of the Fulton County Police Department.

Some of the neighbors said they saw a group of people run from the home.

Medics rushed Williams to Grady Memorial Hospital. She died on Monday. Her sister, Erica, can't imagine who would harm a person who gave everything to help others.

"When I needed a kidney transplant, she volunteered right away. Even when I thanked her for it she just acted like it was no big deal," Erica Williams said. "She was that type of person."

Williams was a popular manager at Target store in south Fulton County.

Authorities said crime has been in the rise in Williams' neighborhood. A meeting had already been scheduled there on Wednesday with police to discuss ways residents can protect themselves.
