Thousands Given In Tip As Part Of @tipsforjesus

Posted: Updated:

A mysterious tipper with an Instagram account has been making the day of servers, bartenders and golf caddies across the US.

The tipper has left thousands of dollars, including $1,000 at the Hungry Cat in Santa Monica, with only one clue- the scrawled, or lately, stamped @tipsforjesus on the receipt.

The notes have showed up from Ann Arbor, Michigan to Chicago, Illinois, and now, a group of them have popped up in Los Angeles. The Hungry Cat got the biggest tip, but there was also a lucky server who picked up $1000 at Fig & Olive and, amusingly a $500 tip was left at stripper bar Jumbo's Clown Room. The tips are always paid with an AMEX black card.

"I think I was more nervous than anybody, because I pay [my workers] out at the end of the night. But [the card] went through, so they got their money... It's a mystery for sure, we're not sure. Apparently he's been in Utah, by Notre Dame, various places here in LA. Right now I think it's just somebody wanting to be generous during the holidays," said Hungry Cat manager, Becky Graziano.

Some of the lucky recipients of the gratuities describe the tipper as actually a group of guys who are football fans, and travel around to different games in different parts of the country. One of the members of the group has been very fortunate, and says it's his way to give back.

There's now an account on Instagram @tipsforjesus and they've posted several pictures of receipts including one with a $5,000 tip and another with a $10k tip.

Where will they strike next? Keep an eye out on the Instagram account @tipsforjesus.
