911 Tapes Of Sandy Hook School Shooting Tragedy Released

Posted: Updated:
NEWTOWN, Conn. -

Emotional calls to 9-1-1 during the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre have been released.

The calls were posted on the town's website. They were released under a request by the Associated Press and a court order.

Prosecutors opposed the tapes' release, arguing among other things that the recordings could cause the victims' families more anguish.

One frightened person in the school told 9-1-1, "I saw a glimpse of somebody. They're running down the hallway, they're still running. They're still shooting. Sandy Hook School, please."

Twenty children and six adults were killed inside the Newtown, Conn., school last December.

The gunman, Adam Lanza, then turned the gun on himself.

Police believe the shooting was planned, but say they'll never know a motive.

FOX 29 has made the decision NOT to air these tapes out of respect to the families. We also do not believe that the content of these tapes in any way advance the tragic news story at Sandy Hook.

For those looking for more information on the release of the tapes, here is a link to the government site in Connecticut. http://www.jud2.ct.gov/newsmedia/

Our thoughts and prayers will always be the families of those lost on that day almost a year ago.

    NICE EASTER WEEKEND

The first half of the holiday weekend has been great and Easter Sunday looks just as nice. Clouds thin out late tonight with temperatures falling back to the 40s.

Initially it'll be jacket weather early Sunday morning but plenty of sunshine will warm us into the 60s by afternoon.  High temperatures will be a few degrees cooler than Saturday.

It will be noticeably cooler and breezy at the shore with highs in the low 50s.  Quiet conditions continue into Monday.
