Winter storm forces event cancellations

The wintry weather is forcing the cancellation of several events in the Metroplex. We'll continue to update the list as changes are announced.

Events and Meetings


Candyland at Viridian, which had been scheduled for Saturday, has been canceled.

The 36th annual Don Zetnick Arlington Winter Run, scheduled for Saturday, has been postponed until 8:30 a.m. Saturday at the MAC at UTA.

Breakfast with Santa benefitting Make a Wish has been moved to Saturday, Dec. 14 from 8 to 11 a.m.

Moore Funeral Home canceled its Candlelight Service of Remembrance.

Arlington HomeCare's Holiday Health Fair will be rescheduled.

The Year of the Children's Garden workshop, scheduled to take place at the Arboretum, is canceled.


The City of Bedford has canceled its tree lighting that was scheduled for Friday.


Saturday's Christmas parade and fireworks show was canceled. It will not be rescheduled. The Christmas craft fair and breakfast with Santa will still go on.

Cedar Hill

The Tree Lighting on the Hill has been canceled due to the weather.


The Holly Colley Holiday event scheduled for Friday was canceled. It will not be rescheduled.


The 2013 MetroPCS Dallas Marathon was canceled because of the current weather conditions. Officials said they made the decision for the safety of the participants, volunteers and spectators. The health and fitness expo was also canceled.

The Fair Park tree lighting and festival this weekend has been canceled.

The Trucks for Tots event that was scheduled for Saturday will be postponed until Dec. 14.

The Light Up Lee Park event scheduled for Thursday has been canceled.

The First Saturday Community Luncheon has been postponed until Sunday, Dec. 15 from 1 to 3 p.m.

The Children's Medical Center Holiday Parade in downtown Dallas scheduled for Saturday has been canceled.

The Road to Sochi Tour stop, scheduled for Dec. 7-8 at Klyde Warren Park, has been cancelled.

The General Aviation Jobs Rally has been canceled and will be rescheduled for a later date.

The Parkland Fall Care Fair scheduled for Saturday is canceled and will be rescheduled at a later date.

DART's Mockingbird Station "Staff a Bus" event was moved to Dec. 13.

The Leaders in Government luncheon with Sen. Ted Cruz was canceled.

The University of Texas at Dallas canceled its commencement ceremonies. Fall graduates will be allowed to walk during the spring commencement ceremony.

The Texas Black Sports Hall of Fame Legends reception was canceled and the African American Museum is closed for Friday.

The Texas Ballet Theater has canceled the Saturday matinee and evening performance of The Nutcracker at Winspear Opera House.


The Christmas Parade that was scheduled for Friday is canceled. The tree lighting, which was also scheduled for Friday, will be rescheduled for Monday, Dec. 9 at 7 p.m. at the corner of Main Street and Center.


The Christmas Parade of Lights and other activities were rescheduled to Dec. 9 at 7 p.m. in downtown Ennis.

Farmers Branch

The annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony scheduled for Saturday night has been postponed until Friday, Dec. 13 at 7 p.m.

Fort Worth

The Fort Worth Camera Club Awards Banquet scheduled for Friday night at the YWCA has been canceled.

The Fort Worth Jingle Bell Run/Walk for Arthritis set for Saturday has been canceled. It will not be rescheduled.

The Run the Lights 3K has been rescheduled for Saturday, Dec. 14 at 5:30 p.m.


The It's a Wonderful Life in Newman Village event originally scheduled for Friday will now be on Dec. 13.

The Excide community meeting at the Frisco Heritage Center schedule for 6:30 p.m. Thursday will be rescheduled for a later date.

The grand opening of the Frisco Gun Club that had been scheduled for Friday has been rescheduled for Friday, Dec. 13 at 10 a.m.

Merry Main Street has been canceled and will not be rescheduled. The Kids Holiday Store and Christmas tree lighting will take place Friday, Dec. 13 in Simpson Plaza.

Breakfast with Santa has been postponed until Saturday, Dec. 21.

The Gingerbread House Contest will take place at the Frisco Athletic Center next week.


Christmas on the Square is postponed until Dec. 12 from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., with the official tree lighting at 7 p.m.


The candlelight tour has been postponed until Dec. 14-15.

Grand Prairie

Prairie Lights is closed Saturday.

The tree lighting ceremony at City Hall on Thursday is canceled.

The Candle Light Memorial Service at Grand Prairie Memorial Gardens on Saturday is canceled.

Grand Prairie Farmers Market will be closed Saturday.

SAT testing scheduled for Saturday at Grand Prairie High School has been canceled.


The Parade of Lights scheduled for Thursday night has been canceled. It will be rescheduled at a later date.

Grapevine Vintage Railroad's North Pole Express, the Grapevine Visitors Shuttle, First Friday at Nash Farm, Grapevine Opry, Christmas on Main activities, Settlement to City Museum activities, International Christmas Market, Photos with Santa at the North Pole Express General Store, Le Theatre de Marionette's "North Pole Texas" and the Grapevine Historical Museum have all been canceled or closed for Friday.


The Greenville Christmas Parade has been postponed to Dec. 13.

Highland Park

The Highland Park regional final football game against Wylie will be rescheduled for either Saturday at a site to be announced or 7 p.m. Monday at Allen Stadium.


The Irving Police and Fire 4th annual Blue Christmas Chili Cookoff and toy drive, which was scheduled for Saturday, has been canceled.

The holiday parade was canceled.

The tree lighting ceremony will be rescheduled for 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 12.


The NTTA meeting on the CTP progress is canceled.


Central High School Lightning dancers' breakfast with Santa event has been canceled. It will not be rescheduled.


Lewsville ISD SAT tests at Marcus High have been cancelled.


The meeting for the North Texas Association of Neonatal Nurses has been canceled.


Hometown Holidays events Friday and Saturday postponed until Dec. 14.

The Mansfield Women's Club Holiday Home Tour has been rescheduled for Sunday, Dec. 15.


Christmas in the Park has been rescheduled for Dec. 13 and 14. The opening ceremony will be at 6 p.m.


The SPCA Santa Paws event that was scheduled for Sunday is canceled. There are no plans to reschedule.

Rheas Mill Baptist Church services are canceled Sunday.


The city's Christmas celebration was moved to Dec. 11.


The 27th annual Lantern Light at Heritage Farmstead Museum has been moved to Saturday, Dec. 14 from 3 to 9 p.m.

The Toys for Tots toy drive scheduled for Sunday at Preston Village Shopping Center has been canceled.

First United Methodist Church in Plano has canceled the following events: photos with Santa for special needs children, the Journey to Bethlehem Drive-Thru Nativity and the birthday party for Jesus.


The annual Christmas parade scheduled for Saturday and weekend activities at Santa's Village were canceled. The village will reopen Dec. 12 at 6 p.m.

Richland Hills

The Christmas tree lighting event has been rescheduled for Dec. 13 at 6 p.m. at City Hall.


The Main Street Fest and Holiday Parade on Saturday have been canceled.

The Light Up Main ceremony will be on Dec. 10 at 5 p.m.

The annual Boards and Commissions Volunteer Banquet has been postponed to January with a date TBA.

The Chamber of Commerce Stampede event was postponed to Jan. 17.

Tarrant County

Meals on Wheels will be closed Friday, and there won't be meal deliveries.


Saturday morning's parade was canceled.


The Christmas parade has been postponed until Saturday, Dec. 14 at 10 a.m.
