Police: Teen Robbery Suspect Caught

Posted: Updated:

A police source confirmed a teen being wheeled into Jefferson Hospital Thursday night is the suspected 19-year-old serial robber wanted for an alleged two week crime spree on Asian business owners in South Philly.

"I was trying to protect my wife and my family and employees," explained Ryan Zheng.

Zheng and his co-workers put the teen in the hospital after they say he tried to rob them Thursday afternoon at gunpoint for a third time in two weeks.

Zheng and his employees wrestled with the accused gunman then stabbed him after they say he stormed into Terryin sushi bar on Snyder, threatening Zheng's family.

"They put the gun in front of my wife and employees even my five year old son. I'm angry. Really, really angry. The same guy twice in past ten days so I got angry," Zheng said about the attempted robbery.

Zheng's business wasn't the only target during the past two weeks. Police believe the teenage suspect is the man in surveillance video who robbed several other South Philly stores and restaurants--including Quang Lack's South View Pizza.

Surveillance video shows the hooded suspect put a gun to Lack's face with a child in the store.
Lack watched Fox29 news elated that police say the suspect was caught. Now the 39-year-old business owner wants to shake Zheng's hand for what he did.

"I'm so proud he did that for me. He's my hero," Lack said.

Police say the suspect is facing robbery and drug charges.
