Scrooge Slashes Holiday Decorations

Posted: Updated:
WARRINGTON, Pa. -

'Tis the season for Christmas decorations and holiday cheer.

But residents in the Fairways section of Warrington Township say a scrooge is trying to steal their holiday spirit.

"It's mean someone probably did it. A grinch. A grinch who tried to steal my Christmas."

Cathy is talking about the gash on the side and another on the tail that temporarily grounded her blow-up of St. Nick's holiday helicopter.

"I sewed it and covered it with tape," she said pointing to the rupture that was at least 10 inches long.

You could see Cathy's handy work to get the jolly old elf's vehicle back in service for Christmas  deliveries to kids like her daughter, Erin.

"I think it's cruel and unusual," said her daughter.

Warrington Township police say Cathy's display wasn't the only one slashed Saturday night. Investigators say $240 in damage was done to a neighboring blowup display when someone sliced a snowman, reindeer and, of all, things the nativity scene.

The McKales are now thinking twice about adding decorations to their nearby home.

"We were hesitant thinking, 'Did we put ours up to soon? Are they gonna come along and take ours?'" said Leah.

Residents say damage was done to at least four displays in the Fairways. But Warrington Police Lt. Daniel Friel says only two were reported.

He's urging residents to report any vandalism, hoping it will lead police to catch the vandal before the person's crimes possibly escalate: "It could lead to higher-end value, things like cars, damage to cars, and eventually leading into houses. It's a pattern of behavior we try to prevent."

Friel says the person responsible for the crime will face criminal mischief charges.

Video games may be pure fantasy, but a violent action-adventure game called "Watch Dogs" has ignited a very real debate in one South Jersey community. Watch Dog allows players to adopt the persona of a James Bond-like computer hacker, chasing an evil mastermind. People say it's chock-full of foul language, sex and violence, features dark and foreboding backdrops. The latest version, which is due out this fall may be set in Camden.
