Officials work to remove ice in Tarrant County

Posted: Updated:
FORT WORTH -

The Fort Worth Police Department began reducing traffic on highways in the city Saturday evening to allow for the removal of ice.

The goal of the Texas Department of Transportation will be to reduce 18-wheeler traffic through early Monday morning in order to remove what's known as Cobblestone Ice, which is causing rough rides for motorists who drive over it.

Eastbound I-20 into Fort Worth has been shut down already because so many 18-wheelers are stuck on the Interstate, west of the city.

DPS is urging all drivers to stay off of freeways throughout Tarrant County so the ice can be removed from the roads.

As ice is removed from each freeway, the roads will be reopened to traffic.
