Six-Year-Old Suspended For Kissing Classmate

Posted: Updated:

A six year old boy has been suspended from his school in Colorado for kissing a classmate on the hand and cheek.

His mother says it's a crush and the two children like each other but the school is calling it sexual harassment.

Hunter Yelton is home instead of at school and his mother says the school is taking it to an extreme.

Both Hunter and his mom admit he's had some trouble at school in the past - but he's been trying to better his six year old self.

"It was during class, yeah. We were doing reading group. And I leaned over and kissed her on the hand. That's what happened," Hunter said. "I did something wrong. She sent me to the office, fair and square. I feel sorry. I've been trying to be good at school."

Hunter's mother Jennifer Saunders says the kids are "boyfriend and girlfriend" and calling the act sexual harassment is extreme. "Now my son is asking questions; what is sex mommy? It should not ever be said, sex, in a sentence with a 6 year old."

"How can you do this? How can you say this about my child? Remove sexual harassment, remove it from his record," Saunders said. "I'm going to stand up and fight for him because that's not the case, that's not what happened at all."

The school district is staying firm on the suspension and they hope the first grader changes his behavior soon.
