White Sox get OF Adam Eaton in 3 team deal

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. – The Chicago WhiteSox have acquired outfielder Adam Eaton from the Arizona Diamondbacks inexchange for left-handed pitcher Hector Santiago and a player to be named lateror cash considerations.  The Diamondbacks then traded Santiago andleft-hander Tyler Skaggs to the Los Angeles Angels in return for outfielderMark Trumbo and a player to be named later or cash considerations.

Eaton, 25, hit .252 (63-250) with 10 doubles,four triples, three home runs and 22 RBI over 66 games with Arizona in 2013after missing most of the first half of the season with a sprained ligament inhis left elbow.  He appeared in 35 games in left field, 40 in center andfour in right.  The 5-foot-8, 185-pound Eaton also played in a combined 26games between Class AAA Reno, Class A Visalia and the Arizona League Diamondbackslast season, batting .256 (23-90) with two home runs and 13 RBI.

"Adam provides us with a smart, high-energybaseball player for the top of the lineup," said Rick Hahn, White Sox seniorvice president/general manager.  "He knows the strike zone, is disruptiveon the bases and provides solid defense in center field."

The Springfield, Ohio native entered the 2013season ranked by Baseball America as the No. 3 Prospect, BestHitter for Average, Fastest Baserunner and Best Outfield Arm in the Arizonaorganization.

Eaton, who bats and throws left-handed, wasnamed Pacific Coast League Most Valuable Player and the Diamondbacks MinorLeague Player of the Year in 2012 after combining to hit .375 (198-528) with 47doubles, five triples, seven home runs, 48 RBI, 130 runs scored, 44 stolenbases and a .456 on-base percentage in 130 games between Reno and Class AAMobile.  He led all full-season minor leaguers in average, doubles, runsscored and hits and ranked second in on-base percentage. 

Eaton is a career .348 (453-1,300) hitterwith 88 doubles, 26 home runs, 165 RBI, 281 runs scored, 106 stolen bases and a.450 on-base percentage in 345 games over four minor-league seasons and a .254(85-335) hitter with five home runs, 27 RBI and 59 runs scored in two seasonswith Arizona.  He was selected by the Diamondbacks in the 19th round ofthe 2010 First-Year Player Draft out of Miami (Ohio) University.

           Santiago, 25, went 4-9 with a 3.56 ERA (59 ER/149.0 IP) and 137 strikeouts in34 games (23 starts) in 2013, his first full season with the White Sox. He was 8-10 with a 3.41 ERA (85 ER/224.2 IP) and 218 strikeouts in 78 games (27starts) over parts of three seasons with the Sox from 2011-13 after beingselected in the 30th round of the 2006 draft.
