Golden Globe noms, Oprah honored, controversial book to film

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Golden Globe nominations were announced in Los Angeles Thursday morning. The awards, which honor both television and film, are usually a preview of who we will see nominated next year for an Academy Award.

The big winner of the morning was "American Hustle," which received Best Picture, Director, Actor, Supporting Actor, Actress and Supporting Actress nominations.

Other big movies of the morning were "12 Years a Slave," "Gravity" and "Captain Phillips." The dynamic duo of comedy Tina Fey and Amy Poehler will host the 71st annual golden globe awards on Jan. 12 12th.

Oprah Winfrey was presented with the Leadership Award at the 22nd annual Women in Entertainment breakfast Wednesday morning. The event was held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

Winfrey was introduced by long-time friend Maria Shriver, who recited a poem she had written for Oprah. When Winfrey took the stage, she was dabbing tears from her eyes and exclaimed. "That beats a eulogy, I gotta tell you."

The film studio Lionsgate has acquired the movie rights to the controversial novel "Zealot: The Life and Times of Jesus of Nazareth." The novel made headlines earlier this year when a FOX News interview between the author Reza Aslan and FOX News anchor Lauren Green went viral.

"Zealot," named one of 2013's best by Publishers Weekly, challenges long held assumptions about Jesus Christ.

Look to see it on the big screen in the next few years.
