Vigil held for Chelsea Small outside cash advance store where she was killed

Family and friends gathered in front of the Advance America Cash Advance Thursday night to hold a vigil for Chelsea Small, the 30-year-old mother who was killed there last month during an armed robbery. Her killer still has not been identified or caught.

"My last set of texts is from the night before and say 'I love you mom' and I said 'I love you too, baby," Debi Kamin, Chelsea's mother, says.

A somber chill in the air, but flickering flames huddled together. Loved ones Thursday night recalling the laugh, the smile and lively spirit of 30-year-old Chelsea Small, the proud mother of little Logan and Joselyn.

"She's my world. She's my rock. She's my strength to get me through this right now," says Tiffany Small, Chelsea's sister.

But in between embraces memories of that horrific day last month: This mother was shot and killed during a robbery at the Advance America Cash Advance in Taylor, which now posts a sign reading 'closed indefinitely.' Her family says coming back was difficult but necessary.

"My grandson is now having nightmares because the bad robber is going to get him, and my granddaughter said to me, 'Nana how long does it hurt for?' and I said, 'You know what baby? The hurt will always be there but it just won't be as strong as what it is now, so you just keep talking to mommy because mommy will help you,'" Kamin says.

Small's suspected killer - that "bad robber" - can be seen on surveillance video walking casually outside of the business, just after murdering Small. Until the man is found Small's family vows to return to these closed doors lighting candles, sharing stories, keeping her spirit alive by holding true to what Chelsea would always say them: "I love you to the moon and back."
