PHOENIX (AP) - Arizona Secretary of State Ken Bennett has rejected a complaint from Republican Attorney General Tom Horne accusing a conservative political group that ran ads attacking him of failing to register as a political committee.
Bennett also rejected Horne's call for the group to name the top donors who paid for the television ads. Horne is running for re-election.
Bennett's found this week that the Arizona Public Integrity Alliance does not qualify as a political committee that would be required to register and disclose its top donors.
Horne sued the group last month and it issued an apology for running ads that incorrectly said Horne was being investigated by the FBI. In fact, the FBI closed its investigation of Horne more than a year ago.
