Delaware Valley Faces Coldest Day

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

Arctic air hits the area on this December day! It's set to be one of the coldest days of the year, and the threat of a weekend storm is looming. New Jersey, Philadelphia, and the Delaware region is facing another round of snow that could slow holiday shoppers over the weekend.

FOX 29's Steve Keeley is in Pennsauken, NJ. He calls today blue Friday.

Forecasters say that the snow is expected to begin Saturday morning and mix with sleet and freezing rain in the evening.

"The good news is that its falling on the weekends," said one commuter that Keeley interviewed. It's bad news for retailers, but "I'm saving money," said the customer.

The greatest accumulations are predicted for communities north of Interstate 78, where a winter storm watch will be in effect. Forecasters say 6 to 10 inches of snow are possible in that region.

Forecasters say snow along the coast is expected to change over to rain as warmer air moves into the area.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
