Shane Lee Dixon, 37, of Fort Worth was recently arrested in Oklahoma and extradited to Texas on charges of murder and unlawful possession of a firearm, police say.
Dixon's arrest is in connection to the death of 67-year-old Signe Edwards, who was found dead when police were conducting a welfare check at her home June 9. She was found with massive trauma to her head and face.
Detectives say Edwards hired Dixon to do work around her home, but she became upset when he refused to return a gun that she'd ask him to get repaired, along with the money she'd given him for repair costs.
About a week after Edwards' death, Arlington Police learned that Dixon had been arrested in Oklahoma on unrelated traffic charges. Detectives traveled to Oklahoma to interview Dixon, who said that while he had been a handyman for Edwards, he hadn't been to her house in weeks.
However, Dixon's vehicle during his Oklahoma arrest contained cell phones and blood. The blood was recently analyzed, and was determined to be Edwards'.
Additionally, a fingerprint from Edwards' bedroom door matched Dixon's.
Dixon remains in the Tarrant County Jail under a $525,000 bond.
