Denton Police searching for police impersonator accused of attempted attack

Posted: Updated:
DENTON, Texas -

Denton Police are asking for the public's help in getting information on an alleged police impersonator, they say.

Around 2 a.m. Friday, a woman was stopped on Airport Road by what looked like a police vehicle using emergency lights.

The victim said that when she went to retrieve her driver's license and insurance, the "officer" approached her, reached into her vehicle and tried to attack her.

The victim fought back, and the suspect ran back to his vehicle and drove off.

Because the area the victim was stopped in was dark, she was only able to see that the suspect was wearing dark clothing and that the vehicle he was driving had a red and blue light bar on it.

Police advise that if drivers are suspicious of who stops them, they should call 911, drive to a well-lit area or drive to the police department.

Anyone with information on the reported incident or who was in the area at the time is asked to contact Sgt. Bobby Smith at 940-349-7971 or by texting the information to Tip411.
