Shoppers, retailers make up for lost time after ice storm

Posted: Updated:

With fewer shopping days between Black Friday and Christmas this year, last week's ice storms that shut down the Metroplex couldn't have come and at a worse time for retailers.  That's putting more pressure on the stores and consumers as well.

For shoppers who were stuck at home last week, they're playing catch up this week, and they were out in force on Saturday at the Galleria.  Some shoppers we spoke to say they've just started their Christmas shopping, despite Christmas being less than two weeks away.

For brick and mortar stores, the holiday season is a vital to their business.

"It's such an important part of our year," says Candance Williams, the owner of Toy Maven.  "We all take it very seriously, it is the Superbowl, it is game day."

The Must-Have items shoppers we spoke to are looking for this year: Electronics, including; tablets, phones, gadgets and games.
