A grandfather faces an intoxication manslaughter charge after his grandson died in a crash Sunday night that involved alcohol, officials said.
Tony Dickerson, 52, tried to make a U-turn near W. Simonds and Bowers roads and lost control of his pickup truck, striking a pole according to the Dallas County Sheriff's Department.
His grandson, 5-year-old Josiah Dickerson, was killed.
Tiffany Dickerson, the mom of the boy and daughter of Tony Dickerson, said her son had begged her dad to take him for a ride in the truck, a fun routine the two were known for.
Family members say Tony Dickerson may have had a beer before letting his grandson coax him into the ride.
Tiffany told FOX4 she spoke to her dad in jail and let him know she still supported him. She told her father "this was not your fault."
"He doesn't know what to say and he's sick and I'm like, I know daddy don't worry about it. We're going to stick together we're going to get through this and we're going to find a way to get you out," Tiffany Dickerson said.
Tony Dickerson is being held on $50,000 bond.
Investigators said blood alcohol tests are not yet available, but they expect the results of the lab work in several days.
