(WJBK) -

A man has been arrested in connection with the beating death of Shalisa O'Dell in Warren. Police say the father of O'Dell's two-year-old son has confessed to the crime. The 26 year old is in police custody now and will be arraigned on the charges. Investigators have not released a motive yet.

O'Dell was found dead at her Warren home last week where police say there were signs of a struggle. The medical examiner says she was beaten to death.

"Originally, everyone was preoccupied with the fact that she was a dancer at Deja Vu and I had, right out of the chute, made it clear that that's not the direction we're going in," says Commissioner Jere Green of Warren Police.

25-year-old Shalisa O'Dell she was found dead inside her Warren home November 8th. The crime and the scene were disturbing, even for a seasoned vet like Green.

"She's a mother; she's a person, and she was bludgeoned to death in her own home," Green says.

A dozen detectives worked the case, collecting DNA and following an elaborate trail - a trail that led straight to John Carlos Johnson, O'Dell's on-and-off boyfriend and the father of her two-year-old son.

"The relationship between the two of them was rocky, at best," says Green.

In fact, the two were spotted fighting inside the club where she worked just hours before her murder.

"He knew we were closing in on him. The evidence was stacking up and it was happening fast," says Green.

Friday, Johnson confessed to killing the young mother, allegedly because she was dating someone else.

"I think this is the saddest thing that you can see: Someone's in their home and killed by someone that they know. Killed by someone that they have a baby with, I mean, how much worst can it get?

Johnson is being held on a $2 million bond. He'll be back in court next month.
