The Dallas County Health Department is urging residents to get flu shots now while the vaccine is still available.
Reported flu cases in Dallas County have more than tripled in the past month and about two thirds of the available vaccine has already been used.
Dallas County Health Director Zach Thompson said there are still about 3,000 doses and lines for free flu shots have been short.
But he is concerned that the vaccine will run out when peak demand hits.
"It's incumbent upon everyone to take the flu shot while it's available. Don't wait until January when supply may be limited," Thompson said.
Thompson said he is not aware of any shortages of vaccine right now, either through the county or through private pharmacies.
