A 20-year-old driver faces alcohol-related charges following a three-vehicle accident in Lewisville during rush hour Wednesday evening.
Police say that Osiel Frias-Roberto of Lewisville has been charged with two counts of intoxication assault after the GMC Envoy he was driving on Business Highway 121 ran a red light and hit a school bus that was crossing the northbound intersection at Railroad Street. Other than the driver on board, the bus was empty.
As a result of that crash, the bus then struck a Honda Civic that was stopped at a red light.
Investigators say they believe Frias-Roberto was intoxicated at the time of the crash, and open containers of alcohol were found at the scene.
Both the bus driver and a passenger inside of the Envoy were injured and taken by air ambulance to an area hospital, where they remain in critical condition.
Frias-Roberto was taken by paramedics to a hospital, where he is being treated for minor injuries. Afterward, he will be taken to the Lewisville City Jail, where he will await arraignment.
Traffic on both roads was impacted while first responders helped the injured and investigated the accident.
