CHICAGO (AP) - Chicago actor Larry Yando says he finds challenges and joys when he puts on his Scrooge costume every year at the Goodman Theatre.

Yando has been playing the lead in the Charles Dickens classic "A Christmas Carol" for six years. He says it's not always easy to play the grouchy, grinchy role. But he says the character's transformation from bad guy to good guy lures him in as an actor.

He says Scrooge's story is also inspirational for audiences who can feel isolated and relate to the character. Yando says audiences watch Scrooge and hope "there's a possibility for happiness and change."

"A Christmas Carol" has been playing every holiday season at the Goodman Theatre for the last 36 years.
