Burglar targets jailer, drops inmate ID at the scene

Posted: Updated:
DALLAS -

A man who tried to break in to a Dallas County jailer's car likely won't get away with it.

Police said the crime happened Monday night in the 1400 block of Michigan Avenue in east Oak Cliff.

The jailer found the suspect breaking in to his Hummer and fired shots at him.

The suspect tried to drive away, but crashed into several parked cars. He then took off on foot.

Police said they have a pretty good idea who he is because he dropped his Texas Department of Criminal Justice inmate card at the scene.
