Suspect in SC woman's death arrested in PA

Posted: Updated:

NEWBERRY, S.C. (AP) - Authorities in Newberry County say a suspect in the death of his estranged wife at her home has been arrested in Pennsylvania.

The sheriff's office announced Tuesday that 76-year-old Charles Butler of Chambersburg, Pa., was arrested by that town's police department on a warrant for the murder of 66-year-old Andrenna Butler.

Charles Butler is being held as he awaits an extradition hearing.

Sheriff Lee Foster said friends found Andrenna Butler's body last Saturday night on the floor of her home. Investigators say she lived alone and was estranged from her husband of over 50 years. There were no signs of forced entry, no signs of theft and the alarm system was not armed.

A small amount of blood was found near Butler, who was lying near a door.
