Fire destroys 2 Dallas home on Christmas morning

Posted: Updated:

It was not the Christmas morning two families hoped to wake up to. A fire destroyed both of their far east Dallas homes.

Dallas Fire Rescue said the fire started just after 7 a.m. at a house in the 3700 block of Casa del Sol Lane and then spread to the one next door.

No one was home at the house where the fire started, but eight people were in the second home. Some were on oxygen and two were in wheelchairs. Amazingly, no one was hurt.

"We lost everything, everything we had. Their medicine, their presents, everything was in there," said Charlotte Wherry, who lost her home.

"We spend our last money yesterday on Christmas gifts for everyone in the house," said Patrice McNeil, who was visiting family from Louisiana.

Investigators are still working to determine the cause of the fire.
