5 dogs rescued from Christmas fire

Posted: Updated:

Phoenix firefighters rescued five dogs from a house fire Wednesday afternoon. The fire started around 7 p.m. near the intersection of 22nd Street and Roosevelt Street.

Three of the dogs were close to death, but were able to be resuscitated with oxygen bags and warm blankets. The Phoenix Fire Department says that "Fido Bags" used to save the dogs are donated, reusable, and are carried by every Battalion Chief in the department.

The damage from the fire is extensive and the house appears to be a total loss. Firefighters were able to keep the fire from spreading to nearby homes. The Red Cross is providing shelter for two adults and a 6-year-old.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
