FORT WORTH, Texas -

A 14-year old Metro High School student was shot in the head late Thursday night by a man who said he didn't know the gun was loaded.

Fort Worth police say several people were at a home in the 3000 block of Hanger Avenue when a 24-year-old man pulled out a handgun.

The man told police he did not realize the gun was loaded but pulled the trigger. The bullet struck the teen in the head.  German Serrano was transported to JPS Hospital.

Initial reports said the teen had died, but Fort Worth police said later Friday morning the teen was in critical condition. The teen died from his injuries on Friday afternoon.

The suspect left the scene before police arrived but later called from a different location saying he needed to talk to someone. No arrest has been made in the case.
