A 3-year-old boy is currently being hospitalized after Fort Worth Police say his mother admitted to stabbing him when she "heard voices."
Police say Saturday, they responded to a call around 8 p.m. at the Spring Garden Apartments in the 3200 block of Saint Juliet Street.
Upon arriving to the scene, they found the boy, Jeremy Douglas, bleeding heavily.
The boy was with his mother, 33-year-old Nadia Douglas, who told police she had stabbed him.
Nadia, who says she suffers from schizophrenia and depression but hasn't taken her medication for several months, was arrested, and an injury to a child-serious bodily injury case will be filed with the district attorney's office.
Nadia says that she was cooking dinner and went to check on Jeremy, who was watching TV. She had brought a knife in from the kitchen with her, and that's when she says she "heard voices" and stabbed him.
"I just remember trying to cook dinner, and I remember seeing blood on the floor," she said from jail Monday. "I remember the police coming and taking me away in handcuffs and carrying my baby out of the door. He was bleeding and crying. [inaudible]…but I couldn't pick him up. I'm sorry, Jeremy. I'm sorry."
Nadia says Jeremy is autistic and cannot speak. He is believed to have been stabbed multiple times, listed in fair condition and expected to recover.
Child Protective Services is investigating, saying that Jeremy is Nadia's only child. CPS has no prior history with her.
Neighbors say they've seen Jeremy with a black eye and bruises before, but Nadia says she's never hit her son.
Jeremy's father does not live at home with his mother.
